Strong Jaws in Men

Posted June 18, 2018 in News

handsome man in black suitTom Hardy, Jamie Dornan, Anthony Joshua, Ryan Gosling, and Idris Elba: besides being named the top five Sexiest Men of the Year for 2018 by Glamour Magazine, the superstars in this lineup all have one other characteristic in common: a strong, well-defined jawline.

This trait is one of the most coveted symbols of male beauty according to today’s aesthetic standards. In fact, you would be hard-pressed to find a single individual on the list of 100 sexiest men who did not have an obvious strong jaw structure (other than Jason Momoa; no one can tell what is going on beneath that beard). Unfortunately, the vast majority of men are not born with the jaws of James Franco or Will Smith. For those of us who were not gifted with the bone structure of a demigod, there is still hope by way of genioplasty (chin surgery).

What Is Genioplasty?

Genioplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that corrects a weakly defined jawline by surgically fragmenting the jaw bone to manually extend the chin outward. By holding the chin in its new position with plates and screws, a significant change in the facial bone structure can be observed. Since the incisions are all made inside the mouth, there is also no visible scarring that results from this procedure.

Will I Be Out of Work Long?

There will be some downtime as a result of the procedure, but most patients can return to work within a couple of weeks following the surgery. During this time, you may experience some minor pain and discomfort, but prescription medication will help to mitigate those symptoms. It is also likely that you will be prescribed antibiotics to prevent any infections from developing.

How Will This Affect My Diet?

Long term, this procedure will have no effect on your diet. Depending on the nature of your surgery, you may be placed on a liquid-only diet until your mouth has completely healed. This is to prevent you from running the risk of rupturing the sutures. If you are put on a liquid diet, it is best to slowly graduate to more solid options to ensure the integrity of the healing process.
